Tell us about yourself
I am David Fernández Cantón. I started as an intern in the field of auditing in December 1999, at the age of 21. I experienced the transition from the peseta to the euro. In 2006, I passed the ROAC certification exam.
Currently, I am Audit Director at Baker Tilly and responsible for the sign-off of grant audits we perform.
What do you value most about your day to day? And being part of Baker Tilly?
What I value most in my day-to-day work is sharing efforts and projects with my colleagues, as well as seeing how those who have been in the profession for many years maintain their enthusiasm and commitment to a high level of quality, and the interest shown by those who are just starting their careers.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career?
I may not be very original, but it is a long-term career with different stages: at the beginning, it is essential to dedicate time to learning and asking many questions. This is followed by a phase of consolidating what has been learned and managing the various professional pressures, both internal and external. Later on, it becomes essential to learn how to teach others and to lead projects and teams.
