Baker Tilly Mar 13, 2024

Commitment to sustainability at Port Masnou

Committed to protecting its surroundings and mindful of local and global environmental challenges, since mid-2005 Port Masnou has implemented an environmental management system in accordance with the international ISO 14001 standard and the European EMAS regulation, certified by an accredited body. In addition, aware of the importance of sustainable tourism development, it decided to join Biosphere in 2019.

A sustainability plan based on the SDGs

In September 2015, following a historic agreement by 193 countries, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as a global instrument with broad scope and unprecedented significance.
The SDGs provide an ideal framework to guide organizations in setting objectives and projects across social, labor, good governance, environmental, and economic areas.

Key aspects of Port Masnou’s Sustainability Plan

Baker Tilly Ecogesa has collaborated with Port Masnou to align its objectives with the challenges set out in the 2030 Agenda.
Port Masnou works to embed coherence and alignment with the 2030 Agenda (SDGs) into its strategy. The Sustainability Plan brings together, prioritizes, integrates, and aligns the organization’s key sustainability projects across three pillars: environmental, social, and governance.

Methodology

The materiality assessment was the process that made it possible to identify the most relevant or significant sustainability aspects (ESG matters) for the organization.
Once the material aspects were identified, the sustainability strategy and action plan were designed to include initiatives to address them, in order to reduce potential negative effects and strengthen actions that generate a positive impact—on the organization, the people within it, society, and the environment.

Port Masnou has made a firm commitment to the SDGs, explicitly incorporating them into the Sustainability Plan and linking priority SDGs to the projects and services it delivers.
