School Vouchers for the 2025–2026 School Year
For the third consecutive year, the Government of Catalonia is helping to finance school supply grants in Catalonia for students enrolled in publicly funded educational centers located in the region. The beneficiaries will be students currently enrolled in Infant Education (I5), Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education (except 4th year of ESO), Basic Vocational Training, and Special Education.
This is a school material subsidy launched by the Government of Catalonia, available to students through the same mechanism used in the two previous years. That is, each of the eligible students will receive two school vouchers 2025, with a total value of a 60-euro school check, which can only be used to purchase the subsidized school materials detailed below:
Writing materials, stationery, textbooks, children’s and young adult literature, dictionaries, small musical instruments, backpacks, pencil cases, educational games, calculators, headphones, keyboards, and computer mice. The purchase of licenses for digital educational content is also allowed.
The acquisition of clothing/uniforms, footwear, or electronic materials such as laptops, tablets, or video games will not be subsidized.
The vouchers will only be accepted by participating stores, large retailers, parent associations (AFAs), schools, etc., that have voluntarily joined this campaign. Therefore, not every establishment selling subsidized materials is required to accept the voucher as payment. Similarly, not all educational centers are included in this campaign — only those funded with public money, which includes charter schools.
The 2025 Government of Catalonia vouchers can be used as payment in a purchase or transferred to an educational center so that it can make a joint purchase of school supplies.
Among the students who will receive the vouchers are those currently in the final year of Infant Education (I5), since in the 2025–2026 school year they will enter Primary Education. However, students currently enrolled in 4th year of ESO will not be included, as they will soon no longer be part of Secondary Education.
The list of eligible students in public centers in Catalonia is based on those registered in the Student Registry (RALC) as of May 20, 2025. Students enrolling after that date (up to October 31, 2025) are still eligible, provided they follow the special deadlines.
The voucher must be activated — if not activated, it cannot be used. To activate it, beneficiaries must access the website provided, where they will also find all information, steps, and procedures related to this campaign.
The vouchers will be sent by post to beneficiaries’ homes starting from the last week of June 2025. However, they can also be accessed in digital format through the specified link.
Although digital vouchers are available, purchases must be made in person. That is, vouchers cannot be used for online purchases. In physical stores, digital vouchers can be used by providing the merchant with the voucher number used for payment. Vouchers may be used in the same or in two different establishments.
For businesses wishing to join the campaign, the following requirements apply:
- They must engage in one of the economic activities defined under the following IAE codes: 619.1 (wholesale trade of toys and sports goods), 619.5 (wholesale trade of stationery and art supplies), 619.6 (wholesale trade of books, newspapers, and magazines), 659.4 (retail trade of books, newspapers, stationery, and art supplies), 659.6 (retail trade of toys, sporting goods, clothing, footwear, and accessories, weapons, ammunition, and fireworks), 661.1 (retail trade in department stores), 661.2 (retail trade in hypermarkets), and 661.3 (retail trade in popular stores).
- Enrollment in the campaign must be completed through the official Generalitat platform, available via the previously indicated website, by October 31, 2025 at the latest.
- Businesses must comply with the voucher requirements established in the published order and sign a responsible declaration confirming full adherence to the campaign conditions.
- A simplified invoice must be issued for the subsidized school materials sold. If other items or services are sold to the same customer, they must be invoiced separately.
- On the Generalitat de Catalunya platform, businesses must upload a copy of the issued invoice along with the voucher number provided by the student.
- Once the required documentation is submitted, payment for the validated vouchers will be received within 10 working days.
- Online sales are not permitted, and the total purchase price must include VAT.
- Unused voucher balances are forfeited. No cash refunds will be made if the purchase amount is lower than the voucher value. Conversely, if the purchase exceeds the voucher value, the beneficiary must pay the difference.
- If any item is returned, neither the voucher nor money will be refunded. Exchanges are only allowed for other eligible materials of equal or greater value, with the difference paid by the beneficiary.
- A purchase cannot be paid with two different people’s vouchers.
Specific requirements for educational centers, in addition to those mentioned above:
- Educational centers may join the campaign as participating stores. However, those that do not join but are publicly funded — including public schools, charter schools, special education centers, and basic vocational training centers — are required to accept vouchers transferred by beneficiary students.
- The deadline to join the campaign is June 6, 2025, and centers must remain enrolled until the end of the campaign on November 30, 2025.
- The deadline to transfer vouchers to schools for joint school supply purchases is September 19, 2025 (this is shorter than the overall campaign period ending on November 30, 2025).
- For joint purchases, educational centers may combine vouchers from different beneficiaries and may also make online purchases, provided certain delivery guarantees are met.
Campaign timeline:
- May 20, 2025: extraction of data on enrolled students eligible for the subsidy. Subsequent data updates between July 15 and October 31, 2025.
- June 6, 2025: deadline for educational centers to join the campaign.
- Second half of June 2025: mailing of the vouchers.
- September 19, 2025: deadline to transfer vouchers to schools for collective purchases.
- October 31, 2025: deadline for non-school establishments to join the campaign.
- November 30, 2025: deadline for voucher redemption.
Finally, a tax note: this aid is considered a public scholarship exempt from personal income tax (IRPF), meaning neither the students nor their families will have to declare it on their tax returns.
